Shredding and Cutting

What did I do all week? Well, on Monday, I made some slaw, because we were out of lettuce. So here's the shredding.

Here's the recipe I used.

Tuesday we had our regular MadroƱa pop-up meeting. Things are busy at the vineyard, with the grapes ripening quickly and the tanks already full. Paul, the owner and winemaker, had to leave a couple of times to attend to things in the basement, where the fermentation tanks are. It was good seeing everyone again, and having a glass of wine or two. We had to cut our time a little short because the little old winemaker is busy, busy, busy!

Wednesday my new OttLite arrived. It's the one I tried to buy from Joann when they were having their liquidation sale but got shunted off to the fake "Joannliquidations" site, where they took my money and I had to work to get it back. It was interesting putting it together. I didn't have any trouble until I had to push and turn one of the shafts inside the other. I finally got it done using a piece of rubber I had cut out of some shelf liner I keep in the drawer to unscrew lids and caps. It's so much easier for me to see to knit or sew now! (Cameo appearance by Sandy.)

Thursday the pups got their hair cut. We've had them clipped very short all over for the summer months, but now we're letting the ears, tail and topknot grow back in, now that it's getting cooler and the pollen season will be over by the time they have some long hair around their faces again. They had a nice romp with some other dogs before we went to the doggie spa.

Friday...late Friday, that is, the proof book for the Billy edition arrived. I found a word cut from the Reader's Challenge for the first story. It wasn't the fault of the proofreaders. I introduced the error when I was correcting something. This is why I always get a proof book. It's always easier to see errors when it's actually in print. The rest looks OK.

Saturday I trimmed the excess fabric off of the whole-cloth quilt. I checked to find the width-of-fabric (which is slightly stretchy) versus the straight-of-grain (which doesn't stretch). I cut the two strips of width-of-fabric first and put them aside to use to cut the binding. I just used scissors, rather than one of my rotary cutters, because I had a line to cut on. There's also a line for sewing on the binding.

Next step: Cutting the binding. Here's the quilt, folded and ready for the binding.

I did the cutting while the apple crisp was in the oven. Yum! I had to slice some apples or it.

The Gentle Spirit Tee is coming along, although slowly. I'm working on the underarm decreases now. Soon I'll be connecting the front and the back.

We had some of the usual walks. I made more granola, bread and naan, and spent a few hours fighting disinformation on social media.

I have a lot of difficulty responding to comments to my blog posts because of technical issues beyond my control (my lack of understanding of how things work). Message me on Facebook, Ravelry, BlueSky or Spoutible if you need information.

If you have a few minutes and are willing, please go to Amazon and B&N and search for More Classic Tales Retold or Our Favorite Verses: Poems from The Doll's Storybook by Peggy Stuart". Every click on the page for the book makes it more likely they will keep a good supply in their warehouse and stores. If you are outside the US, you may have a separate website for these retailers. If you have a copy of any of our books, including Emil, Mariah, Classic Tales RetoldOur Favorite Verses or More Classic Tales Retold, please leave an honest review on the websites, especially if you bought from them.

Where's my blog: If you want to follow my blog, go here and sign up to follow.

What's on my needles: Continuing with Gentle Spirit Tee.

What's on my iPhone: Still listening to The Paris Library by Janet Skeslien Charles.

What's on my sewing machine: Binding for the whole-cloth quilt, now that the excess fabric has been cut off.

What's in The Doll's Storybook: Little Billy Sits on the Wall is a poem about Billy. It doesn't appear in any of our books, but it might someday. This week's offering from The Doll's Storybook.

What's my tip of the week: In the days before cooking spray, I used to use liquid lecithin to "grease" my pans. While I still use cooking spray for convenience when camping, I've gone back to using liquid lecithin at home. It saves having to breathe in the propellant (the gas they use to make it come out as a spray). Just pour a little into the pan to plan to use and smear it around. If you warm the pan a little first, it will spread more easily. You can use a piece of paper towel or just your fingers. Nothing will stick to your pan.

Where are my books: The stories in each book first appeared in the blog, and they are reproduced in print with a few changes.

If you don't get free shipping from Amazon or B&N, buy from the BookBabyBookshop, because 50% of the price goes to St. Jude. Other booksellers pay much less, because the vendor gets a cut. My author's page at Book Baby is here. Scroll down and click on any of the books that interest you. Find my books at Barbara's Bookstore as well, or ask your local library to order the books.
