Home, Sweet Home!

We made it home on Wednesday. The plants had missed a couple of waterings, but they were OK. I had been more worried about the sourdough starter, although I read that you could leave it for a month and it would still be good. It didn't look good, though.

I took out some to make two loaves of bread and fed the rest. Before long, both were bubbling.

By the end of the day, both jars were as full as they usually are. I wasn't sure when I made the bread, though, so I added a tiny amount of yeast to each loaf. All it did, though, was save some time. Here's the white loaf. (It was tasty––a special treat!)

The return trip was less stressful than the beginning of our journey and took a lot less time. We left Hawthorne Monday morning and drove to Winnemucca, which was a shorter distance, not halfway home. We pulled into the Silver State RV Park in the afternoon and found our old place, Site 63, which was empty.  We had paid for a month, but we weren't sure if we had to pay again, so we waited until the staff came in on Tuesday morning (they don't work on Mondays) and went to see them. They said we didn't owe anything. They got a kick out of seeing Sandy, and thought it was fun we took our old spot. We bought some more propane from them. The weather in Oregon, especially in the Burns area, looked nasty for the next day, so we decided to stay in Winnemucca another day. It would give us all a chance to rest.

We woke Wednesday morning to snow on the ground and on the roof of the trailer, which delayed our start, but Sandy got introduced to snow. He seemed to enjoy it.
We ran into the family of Dusty's friend Lucy as we were leaving.
Even with the late start, we still made it home early Wednesday evening and had enough time to move the most important things into the house, like the dogs. Sandy got acquainted with the backyard.
Thursday morning, Sandy woke me up at 6:00 AM. While the coffee was making, the pups had a romp in the living room.

They have a series of games they like to play:

1) I have this toy and dare you to take it
2) Tug of war
3) See who gets to the ball first
4) I'm going to pretend to rip your throat out.

Their play often moves from one game to another without stopping.

We had bought a large dog playpen, and we set it up in the living room, the only place big enough for it. We put Sandy's crate in it, along with his food and water. It has two openings, with zippered flaps. We leave it open when we can watch him, but close it up with him inside when we need to do things.
We were able to get an appointment with our vet for Friday afternoon. The whole family went along, as usual. Sandy was pronounced a prime specimen, and we set up visits for the next sets of shots. The visit seemed to wear out both dogs.

In looking at Sandy's pedigree, we discovered that Sandy is related to Rocky. Rocky's father was Sandy's great-grandfather. Rocky's grandmother was Sandy's great-great-grandmother on the other side. It's nice he has a connection with Rocky.
During the trip home, I was able to get more knitting done. the first sleeve is ready for the cuff. I had worried when we got stuck in Winnemucca for nearly three weeks that I would run out of knitting, but I needn't have worried.

Our mail was waiting for us when we got home. I was glad to see the book and yarn I ordered during the Yarn Crawl. Both had arrived the same day we left.

This gives me another project to work on when I finish the Talvinen.
Charlie has come down with my cold, but I tested negative for COVID three times, two days apart, so his is probably just a cold, too.

I have a lot of difficulty responding to comments to my blog posts because of technical issues beyond my control (my lack of understanding of how things work). Message me on Facebook, Ravelry or Spoutible if you need information.

If you have a few minutes and are willing, please go to Amazon and B&N and search for "Classic Tales Retold: Stories from The Doll's Storybook by Peggy Stuart" in Children's. Every click on the page for the book makes it more likely they will keep a good supply in their warehouse and stores. If you are outside the US, you may have a separate website for these retailers. If you have a copy of any of our books, including Emil and Mariah, please leave an honest review on the websites, especially if you bought from them.
